James Weldon Taylor

Mr. James Weldon Taylor, 71, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 11, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  Mr. Taylor was born March 31, 1947, in Surry County, one of two children born to the late James Hassell and Elsie Lee Hiatt Taylor.  Weldon was a teaching assistant with the Creating Successful Learners Program at Mount Airy City Schools and was a lifetime member and deacon at Shelton Church of the Brethren.  He was also a longtime coach, teacher, and mentor to many young adults.  He is survived by his wife, Lynda Williams Taylor of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dr. Bryan Weldon Taylor of Newland and Kevin and Misty Taylor of Mount Airy; three granddaughters, Shelbey Taylor, Camden Taylor, and Lacey Taylor, all of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Fred Chilton, Jr. of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.  The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Shelton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Joe Smith, the Rev. Rusty Reed, and Chaplain Randy Hillman officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to CSL Program, c/o Diane Barnett, 1778 Inglebrook Trail, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
