Mr. James Louie Taylor, 83, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008. Mr. Taylor was born November 17, 1924, in Surry County, to the late Ben John and Mamie East Taylor. He served our country in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946. During his military experience in World War II, Mr. Taylor fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima and also served in Japan during their reconstruction effort. Louie was the owner and operator of Taylor's Garage for many years and a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Mike Crowe of Greer, SC, and Patsy and Phil Sutphin of Concord; a stepdaughter and her spouse, Peggy and Roger Needham of Mount Airy; a stepson and his spouse, Teddy and Brenda Blizzard of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Hale Wrenn of Richmond, VA, Charles Hale of Wake Forest, Michael Hale of Greenville, SC, Dr. Suzanne Sutphin of Columbia, SC, and Katherine Sutphin of Concord; three great-grandchildren, Harrison Wrenn, Justin Wrenn, and Mia Wrenn; a sister, Rachel Taylor Coleman of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Jean Cook Taylor of Mount Airy; and a special caregiver and family friend, Annie Mae Hutchins of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his first wife, Cleo Venable Taylor; his second wife, Glenna Blizzard Taylor; a brother, Harold "Harry" Taylor; and a brother-in-law, Ray Coleman. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Dr. Roger B. Gilbert, the Rev. J. Cecil Hill, and the Rev. Lanny R. Atkins, and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church, 714 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
