Mr. James Thomas “Jimmy” Hancock, age 86, of Bassett, Virginia left this earthly life on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at SOVAH Hospital of Martinsville. He was born in Patrick County on December 18, 1936, to the late Thomas Crawley Hancock and the late Mary Catherine Brim Hancock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, David Hancock. Jimmy was an antique car enthusiast, an avid Ford man, and loved NASCAR racing. He enjoyed fishing, horses, rabbit hunting and squirrel hunting. Jimmy will be sorely missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Left to cherish the fond memories of Mr. Jimmy Hancock are his loving wife of 65 years, Elaine Gilley Hancock of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Hancock (Carol) of Bassett, Virginia; one daughter and son-in-law, AnnPaige Hancock Harris (Ron) of Galax, Virginia; three grandchildren, Travis Hancock (Laura) of Newport News, Virginia, Carrie Paige Bowles of Beaufort, North Carolina, Jordan Hancock of Fredericksburg, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Peyton Thomas, Leah Hancock, Jonah Hancock; two sisters and brother-in-law, Faralina H. Conway of Bassett, Virginia, Jean H. Joyce (Bobby) of Bassett, Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Jimmy Hancock will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor David McEntire officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in the Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations in memory of Mr. Hancock may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741. The family of Mr. James “Jimmy” Hancock would like to acknowledge with appreciation his wonderful care from Liberty Home Health Care, Mulberry Creek Rehabilitation Center, SOVAH Hospital of Martinsville Critical Care Unit, and his beloved caregiving assistant, Debbie Dillon for all the loving care she gave Jimmy for the last three years. Also, the family would like to acknowledge Gene Dillon, Ronnie Bowles, Quinton Stacey, Bo Stacey, Jimmy’s two nieces, Carolyn Simmons, and Gay Bryant for all the times they helped when it was much needed. Our family is so grateful for all the love shown to Jimmy.
