James William Utt

Mr. James William Utt, 78, of 477 North Franklin Road, Mount Airy, went home to be with his heavenly father on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Utt was born February 11, 1932, in Surry County, to the late Ed and Evelyn Tate Utt. He was a retired truck driver from Sara Lee Corporation and was well known by his CB handle, "Hound Dog." Mr. Utt was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Rachel Vaughn Utt of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Donald Akers of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Neil and Jackie Utt of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Neely Ragland and Chris Cooke; five great-grandchildren, Chainey Cooke, Ellik Ragland, Keylee Ragland, Zach Willard, and Cannon Cooke; two sisters, Mildred Gagne and Eva Cave, both of Mount Airy; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Eva Utt and Larry and Sandra Utt, all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Utt was preceded in death by three sisters, Treva Easter, Hazel Utt, and Margaret Ann Utt; and two brothers, Bobby Utt and Carmel Utt. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 1, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Larry Phillips, the Rev. Tommy Vass, and the Rev. Dean Eaton officiating. Burial will follow in the Midway Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
