Mr. James Ray “Jimmy” Watts, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday night, January 4, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Watts was born December 25, 1937, in Surry County, one of seven children born to the late Garles Rupert “Mike” and Mary Alice Shelton Watts. Jimmy proudly served our country in the United States Navy and later retired from Pike Electric, Inc. after many years of service. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Hiatt Watts of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law Paige Simmons and Tommy Brannock of Mount Airy and Kim and David Hibbett of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Krista Berlin and Anna Benson, both of Winston-Salem, and Jade Simmons, Justin Simmons, and Jarrett Simmons, all of Mount Airy; two great-grandchildren, Alexis Grace Berlin and Sophie Quinn Simmons; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Betsy and Ray Easter of Dobson, Mary and Dennis Speaks of King, and Frankie Cave, Dawn and James Hall, and Linda Johnson, all of Mount Airy; a brother, Tom Watts of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 6, 2017, at 2:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Bishop John Bradley and President David P. Hiatt officiating. Entombment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
