James Leeland Yates

Mr. James Leeland “Jimmy” Yates, 74, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2022, at his home. Mr. Yates was born October 8, 1947, in Pittsylvania County, VA, one of ten children born to the late Leeland Alexander Yates and Gladys Doss Yates Gilliam. Jimmy owned and operated Jimmy’s Western Tack Store for many years. He is survived by his wife, Linda Pauline Norman Yates of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Dennis Campany of Harrisburg; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy Lee and Mary Yates of Monmouth, IL; six grandchildren, Megan Campany, Hannah Campany, Nicholas Campany, Samantha Yates, Sara Yates, and Stormi Yates; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Carolyn Wyatt, Linda Hammock, and Robin and Ronnie O’Connor; a brother, Dewey Yeatts; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Yates was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Yates and Judy Coward; and three brothers, Donnie Yates, Freddy Yates, and Dennis Yates. Per Jimmy’s request, no formal visitation or memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Flat Rock Pentecostal Holiness Church, 120 Pentecostal Holiness Church Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
