Jane Darden Britt

Mrs. Jane Darden Britt, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 8, 2010, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Britt was born January 1, 1926, in South Norfolk, VA, to the late William Henning and Christine Wilson Darden. Mrs. Britt was a graduate of Mary Baldwin College. She was an active member of the PEO, Surry Arts Council, Junior Arts and Crafts Guild, a former board member of the North Carolina Heart Association, and a longtime member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Mount Airy. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Beverly B. Robertson of New Bern and Jennie and Tom Ritchie of Galax, VA; a son, Tilman C. Britt, III of Florence, SC; five grandchildren, Heather Hopkinson, Will Ritchie, Drew Britt, William D. Britt, II, and Sarah Britt; two great-grandchildren, Drew Hopkinson and Brad Hopkinson; and a sister, Betty Darden Hodges of Norfolk, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Britt was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Dr. T.C. Britt, Jr.; and a son, William Darden Britt. A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Ray Hanna officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
