Mrs. Jane Anne Phillippe Edwards, 82, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009, at Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Edwards was born July 12, 1927, in Stanton, VA, to the Rev. W.M. Phillippe, Sr. and Oney Gibson Phillippe. She retired from the Mount Airy City Schools and was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. She was also a member of the Lady Lions Club. Mrs. Edwards was a dear, sweet mother and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Dana and Phillip Spence of Kernersville and Karen and Jim Bedford of Lake Forest, IL; grandchildren, Jackson William Bedford and Emily Jane Bedford; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Paul Swauger, Sr.; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Joan Phillippe of Brooksville, FL, and Joe and Helen Phillippe of Rogers, AR. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Joe Benton Edwards; a sister, Patche Phillippe; and a brother, Dr. W.M. Phillippe, Jr. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Roger B. Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 714 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
