Ms. Janet Kay Atkins Burkhart, 67, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Ms. Burkhart was born September 2, 1956, in Surry County, to the late Ernest Atkins and Betty Coake Atkins Weddle. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who will surely be missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Brad Burkhart (Hannah), Jamie Burkhart, and Greg Burkhart; her grandchildren, Hayden, Brayden, Julie, Timmy, Levi, Jessie, Brittany, Jonathan, and Jacob; her great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Elijah; three sisters, Shelby Hawks (Bruce), Geraldine Hutson, and Glenda Phillips; and four brothers, Mike Atkins, Jeff Weddle, Kenneth Weddle, and Greg Weddle (Cooky). In addition to her parents, Ms. Burkhart was preceded in death by her son, Kelly Burkhart; a grandson, Little Tommy Burkhart; a great-granddaughter, Ella Grace Marsh; her stepfather, Phil Weddle; a brother, Mark Atkins; and two special brothers-in-law, the Rev. Ray Hutson and James Phillips. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2024, at 11:00 AM at The Community Church in Mount Airy, with Bro. Josh Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 PM at The Community Church in Mount Airy.
