Mrs. Janice “Gail” Atkins Branch, 69, of Mount Airy went home to be with her Lord and husband Mike Branch, after a lengthy battle with heart disease. She was born in Surry County on December 6, 1951 to the late Foy and Betty Atkins. Gail was a loving wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and a dear friend to many. She was also a dedicated member of Dover Baptist Church. Gail was retired from Surry County Social Services. While Mike was alive, they enjoyed cooking, gardening, and antique classic cars. Gail was also a dedicated member of White Plains Ruritan Club. Gail is survived by sisters Kay Miller and husband David and Sue Thomas and husband Greg; special Aunt Ruby Creed, sister-in-law, Linda Branch; and nephews and spouses Devin and Christen Thomas, Cameron and Heather Thomas; Gil and Joannah Branch, Lee Collins; and great niece Carlee Thomas and great nephew Bentley Thomas and Avery Thomas due in late July. Gail is also survived by many Slate and Atkins cousins and Branch relatives. Gail loved her dog Peedee who has been her constant companion since Mike passed away. Gail has many special friends too numerous to mention and many special work friends from Surry County Social Services. In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her husband Mike Branch. Gail will remain at Moody Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, July 17th and 18th for anyone to pay respects. Family visitation will be at Dover Baptist Church on Sunday, July 18th from 2 pm until 3 pm with service at 3 pm with burial to follow in Dover Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials can be made to Dover Baptist Cemetery fund, 178 Dover Church Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or White Plains Ruritan Club, c/o Garnett Beasley, 1626 Old Hwy 601, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.
