Janice Smith Shelton

Mrs. Janice Smith Shelton, 85, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at Penn Nursing Center in Reidsville. Mrs. Shelton was born December 19, 1923, in Surry County, to the late Peter Hobson Smith and Lula Copeland Smith. She retired from Cross Creek Knitwear and was a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Shelton is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Judith Shelton Davis and husband, Allan, of Ruffin, Frances Shelton Schneider and husband, Jerry, of Fredericksburg, VA, and Yvonne Shelton Williams of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Sherri Davis Godsey and husband, Mike, of Mount Holly, Susan Lisa Davis of Danville, VA, and Donna Marie Davis of Winston-Salem; a great-grandchild, Olivia Yvonne Godsey of Mount Holly; and a brother and sister-in-law, James Earl Smith and Lois of Sneads Ferry. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie William Shelton. A graveside service will be conducted Friday, January 23, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens by the Rev. Robert McCrary. There will be no formal visitation.
