Janie Rae O’Neal Johnson

Mrs. Janie Rae O’Neal Johnson, 77, of Mount Airy, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Mrs. Johnson was born October 24, 1940, in Alleghany County, the daughter of the Rev. Jefferson Lewis O’Neal and Edna Tilley O’Neal Clifton. Janie worked as a beautician for many years and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Ararat. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia “Cindy” and Ricky Shinault of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, Matthew and Stephanie Shinault of Mount Airy and Meredith and Chase Dickens of Rural Hall; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard “Jim” Johnson; a sister, Mildred Louise O’Neal Mauldin; and a brother, James Gray O’Neal. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kevin Clark and the Rev. Josh Sechrist officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
