On January 29, 2022, Jansen Loke Bartlett of Pilot Mountain passed away after suffering a stroke and further complications at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was 70 years old. Jansen is survived by his beloved wife Deborah Fields Bartlett (Debbie); their children Chelsea Bartlett Wheeler of Pilot Mountain (husband Brent Wheeler and grandson John Jansen Wheeler [11]), Karrie Bartlett Tilley of Chapel Hill (husband Josh Tilley and granddaughters Madison [10] and McKenzie [7]) and Sara Hastens Bartlett of Mt. Airy (fiancé Jonathan Webb). Jansen is also survived by his mother Pearl Bartlett of Woodlawn, VA, brother Layne, and sisters Claudia, Robin and Christy. Jansen worked at Duke Power for over 40 years as a Senior Turbine Technical Specialist and independent contractor. But his true passion was gardening, beekeeping and being “pawpaw” to 3 adoring grandkids. His best mate and first grandchild, John Jansen, was the ultimate sidekick. They spent their days growing Pilot Mountain-famous tomatoes and tinkering. Soon after, granddaughter Madison entered the picture and pawpaw was smitten with this courageous young lady as well. She was the apple of his eye. Last but not least, McKenzie put a perfect pink bow on the trio of grands. She had him wrapped around her little finger and dancing constantly. They all loved playing the jukebox loud and dancing to Devil with a Blue Dress On (among other 60’s hits). Affectionately called “safety Sam” by his three daughters, he taught them the value of hard work, kindness and always being prepared. He was a phenomenal girl dad, husband, son, brother, friend, and neighbor. Jansen loved antiques, beach music, billiards, good food and wine; a bonus if he could find all these things in one place. He had a love for baseball and the Baltimore Orioles. A graveside burial ceremony for Jansen will be held on Friday, February 4 at 2pm in Woodlawn, Virginia at Crooked Creek Cemetery (Crooked Creek Rd [Route 620] Woodlawn, VA 24381) with Rev. Jeremy Pegram officiating. A family visitation is scheduled from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, February 5 in the Family Life Center at First United Methodist Church (210 West Marion Street, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pilot Mountain Outreach Center (P.O. Box 190, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041), FUMC Thank Bank Fund (210 West Marion Street, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041), or to the Crooked Creek Cemetery Fund, c/o Laura Griffin, 399 Millstone Road, Woodlawn, VA 24381..
