Jean Slate

Mrs. Jean Brooks Slate, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 29, 2020, at her home.  Mrs. Slate was born September 12, 1938, in Carroll County, VA, the daughter of the late Kennard and Olga Mitchell Brooks.  Jean was a homemaker and a member of Genesis Full Gospel Church.  She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Lee “Bob” Slate of the home; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Tommy Ray and Debbie Slate, Ricky and Sharon Jones, Teddy Lee Slate, and Bobby and Marilyn Slate, all of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn and Mike Faux of Carroll County, VA, and Carolyn and Lee Crotts of Surry County; and a brother and two sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Lois Brooks and Cathy Brooks, all of Forsyth County.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slate was preceded in death by two sisters, Rachel Gross and Lillian Gross; and three brothers, Joe Brooks, Wheeler Mayes, and Roshell Mayes.  The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Genesis Full Gospel Church, with the Rev. Hank Robertson and the Rev. Donnie Hooker officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the church.  Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
