Mr. Jeffery Rady Hall, 51, devoted husband of Mrs. Debra Porterfield Hall, finished his race here on earth on Friday December 18, 2009 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home with his family gathered by his bedside. After a courageous battle with cancer, Jeff finished his climb up the mountain and found himself in the presence of God. He was born in Surry County on May 30, 1958 to Barbara Newman Hall and the late W.R. "Bill" Hall. Mr. Hall was employed as an Inspector for the County of Surry and a former Deputy and Detective for the Surry County Sheriff's Office. He also served on the Surry County Board of Education for five years. A dedicated member of Mountain Park Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher where he touched the lives of all who knew him. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 34 years, Mrs. Debra Porterfield Hall of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kristy and Tony Cox of Elkin; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Kathryn Jackson Hall of State Road; his mother, Barbara Newman Hall of Elkin; two grandsons, whom he adored, Noah Brett and Mason Daniel Cox; two sisters, Pam Hall Sell and Robert McMillian of Elkin, and Melissa and husband Joseph Tucker of Siloam; his father-in-law and mother-in-law Harmon and Clara Porterfield of Elkin; three brothers-in-law, Randy and wife Debbie Porterfield of Boonville, Terry and wife Joanna Porterfield and Michael Porterfield all of Elkin; two nephews, Brian and Denver Porterfield. In addition to his father, Mr. Hall was preceded in death by a brother, Brian Keith Hall; his maternal grandparents, Robert Clarence and Ina Bell Newman; his paternal grandparents, Powell and Ruby Hall. His funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Mountain Park Baptist Church by Dr. Carl Childs. Burial will follow in the Zephyr Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 21 from 6 to 9 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, NC where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, Dobson Camp, P.O.
