Mrs. Jennie Mae Sutphin Arrington, 97, of 148 Slate Street, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 19, 2011, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Arrington was born November 8, 1913, in Surry County, the daughter of the late John Lincoln and Mary Jennie Love Sutphin. Jennie retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Shelton of Pilot Mountain, Faye Hutchens of Mount Airy, and Verona and Don Wright of Lowgap; a son, Wayne Arrington of Mount Airy; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Nancy S. Cockerham of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Arrington was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Arrington; a daughter, Jean Creed; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Arrington; a son-in-law, Homer Shelton; a granddaughter, Angela Faye Wright; three grandsons, David Shelton, Donovan Lee Wright, and Mark Shelton; a great-granddaughter, Kristen Daughenbaugh; a great-great-granddaughter, Kennedy Boyette; three sisters, Merlie Brown, Sarah Collins, and Cassie Davis; and four brothers, Lacy, Calvin, Manuel, and Brian Sutphin. The funeral service will be held Sunday, May 22, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Midway Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Phillips and the Rev. Lonnie Gunter officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
