Jerry Burcham

Mr. Jerry Lee Burcham, 74, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday evening, July 2, 2021, at his home. Mr. Burcham was born August 7, 1946, in Surry County, one of seven children born to the late Glenn Lee and Helen Sutphin Burcham. Jerry served our country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force after 22 years of honorable service. Later, he taught automotive electronics at Surry Community College, retiring in 2019 after 20 years of service. Jerry was a faithful member and deacon of Blues Grove Baptist Church. Additionally, he was a devoted member of the VFW Post 2019 of Mount Airy and a member of the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. He is survived by his wife, Susan Ann Branch Hodges Burcham of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Layne Cook of Jacksonville, FL, and Jennifer and Robby Stone of Rural Hall; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian Burcham of Wilmington and Chad and Becky Hodges of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, Mallorie Cook, Autumn “Nikka” Cook, Sidney Burcham, Rhae Ann Burcham, Jake Lawson, Darin Hodges, Calista Stone, and Chloe Stone; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Judy and Donald Clifton and Janet and Dale Badgett, all of Mount Airy, and Sheryl Burcham of Lowgap; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Kit and Linda Burcham of Mount Airy, and Steve and Marguerite Burcham and Randy Burcham, all of Lowgap; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 5, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Blues Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Travis Sechrist and the Rev. Arlis Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard and 4th Fighter Wing Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the church.
