Mr. Jerry Arnold Gardner, 63, of 3172 Park Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Friday night, August 19, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Gardner was born September 2, 1947, in Surry County, the son of the late Wayne Joseph and Jane Frances Simmons Gardner. Jerry retired as a supervisor from United Plastics Corporation after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Geraldine Tickle Gardner of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Penny and Ray Flippen of Mount Airy and Jill and Pete Hubbard of Ararat, VA; a son, Kenneth Dale Gardner and his companion, Amy Creed, of Lowgap; two grandsons, Colby Evan Hubbard and Riley Ellis Hubbard, both of Ararat, VA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Libby and Billy Simmons of Chattanooga, TN, and Vickie and Ricky Simpson of Mount Airy; a brother and sister-in-law, John W. and Dawn Gardner of Mount Airy; several nephews; and his mother-in-law, Ossie Boles Terrell of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gardner was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Floyd Franklin Tickle. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Alton Bledsoe and the Rev. Eric Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the Hutchens-Venable Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
