Jerry Kenan "Coach" Hollingsworth

Mr. Jerry Kenan “Coach” Hollingsworth, 76, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at his home.  Mr. Hollingsworth was born October 21, 1943, in Duplin County, the son of the late Herman Dallas Hollingsworth, Sr. and Lillian Bullard Hollingsworth.  Coach Hollingsworth started his teaching and coaching career in 1966 when he came to Mount Airy.  He was a teacher, football coach, and athletic director at Mount Airy High School for more than 36 years, where he touched the lives of many young individuals and taught two generations through driver’s education.  He was a charter member of Saint Andrew Lutheran Church in Mount Airy, where he served on the church’s council.  Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Norton Hollingsworth; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Tarona Hollingsworth and Joel and Heidi Hollingsworth; his grandchildren, Beren Daniel Hollingsworth, Kylie Grace Hollingsworth, Saffie Cate Hollingsworth, and Pippa Jane Hollingsworth; and a brother and sister-in-law, Herman Dallas Hollingsworth, Jr. and Faye Smith Hollingworth.  A private service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Andrew Lutheran Church in Mount Airy.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
