Jerry Mitchell Southern

Mr. Jerry Mitchell Southern, 76, of Mount Airy passed away at Forsyth Medical Center, Sunday, December 27, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.  Mr. Southern was born in Surry County, North Carolina, on January 1, 1944 to the late Reid Henderson and Emma Nannie Jones Southern.  Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.  He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.  Jerry spent most of his life farming along with working as a Line Foreman for Lee Electrical Company.  Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 36 years, Elizabeth “Liza” Henry Southern of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Michell Southern, Jr and wife Teresa of Cameron, North Carolina; grandchildren, Tyler Southern, James Southern, Jessica Schoonover, Amanda Schoonover; five great-grandchildren, nieces and spouses, Suzanne Southern, Lynn Marsh Godfrey and husband Eric, Cindy Southern, Bonnie Southern; nephews, Harold Southern, Dale Marsh and wife Carolyn, and very special friend, Ben Nichols.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Southern was preceded in death by a son, Michael B. Schoonover; a sister, Betty Jo Southern Marsh; brothers, Billy Jack Southern, Harold Reid Southern.  No formal service will be held at this time.  Moody Funeral Services of Mount Airy is assisting the family.
