Jesse Franklin Wright

Mr. Jesse Franklin Wright, age 89, of Dobson, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Nelson County, Virginia, August 12, 1933, to the late William Tolifero Wright Sr. and Annie Mae Mitchell Wright.

            Jesse was a family man who dearly loved his family, country, God, church and friends.  He was an active member of Piney Grove Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 aboard the USS Miller during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, UNC Carolina basketball, playing golf and fishing off the NC and SC coasts. He retired from Surry Yadkin Electric Membership Corp., after 40 years of service.

            Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Audrey Woodruff Wright and raised a wonderful family. Doug Wright and Lisa; Jill Wright Cockerham and Ben; Suzanne Wright; and Britt Wright and Kristie; grandchildren, Tanner Wright, Adam Cockerham, Tara Wright Sargent, Madison Wright, Taylor Wright and Brittany Schuler; step grandchildren, Taylor Santalucia and Morgan Santalucia; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

            In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Davis and Mary Jane Moore; brothers, Bernard Wright Sr., William Wright Jr., and John Lee Wright; and a special grandson, Benny Gray Cockerham III USMC, who was killed in Iraq in 2005.

            There will be a private graveside service with Military Rites.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veteran’s Memorial Fund at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The family would like to offer a special thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the care of their loved one. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the Wright Family.
