Jessie Virginia Sutphin Loftis

Mrs. Jessie Virginia Sutphin Loftis, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, March 1, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Loftis was born October 24, 1917, in Surry County, daughter of the late Walter and Mary Jettie Kirkman Sutphin. She was married for 74 years to her loving and devoted husband, E.J. "June" Loftis, Jr. She is survived by her beloved son, Kyle D. (Kathryn) Loftis of Naperville, IL. Jessie was extremely proud of her four grandchildren, Kelley (Mike) Pfeffer of Ashburn, VA, Dr. Kenley (Meg) Loftis of Columbia, SC, Christen (Dr. Bradley) Gelfand of Charlottesville, VA, and Jaime Loftis, RN, of Chicago, IL. Six great-grandchildren blessed her life, Parker, Reid, Drew, and Ian Pfeffer and Jackson and Nathan Loftis. Jessie's life was further enriched with the friendship and love of her surviving sister, Kate McBride; her sister-in-law, Lettie Loftis Patterson; her dear niece, Pauline Jones Pardue; and her nephew, Edward (Rachel) Jones. Jessie will be remembered by the many nieces and nephews of the Sutphin and Loftis families. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Loftis was preceded in death by five sisters and a brother. A visitation with the family will be Thursday, March 4, 2010, from 10:00 until 11:30 AM in the Fireside Room of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. The memorial service will follow immediately in the sanctuary.
