Mrs. Jessie Gaynell Dollyhigh Shumate, 58, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Shumate was born May 27, 1952, in Surry County, to Lester McKinley and Mamie Thelma Danley Dollyhigh. She retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County. Gaynell was an inspiration to all her family and friends and was like a warm ray of sunshine to anyone who knew her. Surviving are her husband, Dink Shumate of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Eric Bunker of Mount Airy; a son, Matt Shumate of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Madison Tickle, Taylor Tickle, Brayden Bunker, Christopher Shumate, and Alexandria Shumate; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jean and Robert Lynch of Lowgap and Carolyn Bullen of Mount Airy; a brother, Hassell Dollyhigh of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and a special aunt, Maggie Danley of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shumate was preceded in death by a wonderful sister and brother-in-law, Frankie and Dale Parsons; a brother, James Dollyhigh; and a loving sister-in-law, Lola Dollyhigh. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Blues Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Sammy Lawson and the Rev. Tony Holder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home. Mrs. Shumate will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
