Ms. Jessie Atkins Stewart, age 87, of Dobson, NC passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was born in Surry County on February 5, 1934, to the late Merlin Grover Atkins and the late Alma Lewis Atkins. She was a retired school teacher from the Surry County School System, worked at Surry Community College for many years helping students preparing for their GED, and an active member of Dobson First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Care Team. She was a member in various organizations including Order of the Eastern Star where she held several levels of offices. She was member of Delta Kappa Gamma, International Professional Educators, Alpha Theta Chapter where she also held offices at several levels. She was a member of the WMU and the Dobson Woman’s Club. She volunteered at Mountain Valley Hospice and the Hispanic Ministries at Piney Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed water aerobics, she was a world traveler and loved spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lessie Atkins Brindle, and a brother, Jimmy L. Atkins, sister-in-law Molly Atkins and brother in-law Jim Marion and son-in-law, Tim Harris. Surviving are her two daughters, Sharon Key, Pamela Harris; one son and daughter-in-law Jim and Betsy Stewart; grandchildren, Shana Krings, Brianna Stewart, Ryan Boland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Effie Marion, Carol and Harold Bledsoe, Kathy and Larry Robertson; brother and sister-in-law, J. Wayne and Glenda Atkins. She had three great-grandchildren Cassidy, Samantha and Dean Krings. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on October 30, 2021, at 11:00 am at Dobson First Baptist Church. Rev. Cory Honeycutt will officiate the service. The family request in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Dobson First Baptist Church, PO Box 278, Dobson, NC 27017, Surry Community College SCC Foundation, 630 S. Main St., Dobson, NC 27017 or Mountain Valley Hospice 945 Zephyr Rd Dobson 27017. Moody-Davis Funeral Home is serving the Stewart family.
