Jettie Mae Vernon Riggs

Mrs. Jettie Mae Vernon Riggs, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Riggs was born February 20, 1921, in Surry County, to the late Monty and Betty Younger Vernon. She retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Janice Brown and her fiancée, Terry Draughn, of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Evie Riggs of Mount Airy; two grandchildren and a spouse, Charles Jackson, Jr. of Dobson and Shannon and Chris Macemore of Jonesville; three great-grandchildren, Kristin Hutchens, Caitlyn Macemore, and Cade Macemore; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Doris and Walter Junior Cloud of Mount Airy, Grace and Baxter Smith of Hickory, and Mary Key of Siloam; and a brother and three sisters-in-law, Jack and Joann Vernon, Chris Vernon, and Alma Vernon, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Riggs was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Lee Riggs; a sister, Rachel Willard; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Reid Franklin Vernon, Grady Pettis Vernon, Brady Harrison and Virginia Vernon, and Wade and Irene Vernon. The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 24, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jimmy Slate officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
