Mrs. Jewel Rae Barber Baker, 78, of Pinnacle, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 6, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Surry County on February 24, 1931 to the late Ray and Maggie Coon Barber. Mrs. Baker was a devoted homemaker and a true farmer's wife. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 61 years, Wayne Baker of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary Dean and Jean Baker of Pinnacle, four daughters and sons-in-law Gail and Tommy Martin of Westfield, Gwendolyn and J. C. Lawson, Avis and Gary Shinault all of Pinnacle and Kaye and Perry Hunter of Pilot Mountain; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; her step-mother Ruby Barber of Pleasant Garden; two half brothers, J.W. Barber of Bradley, IL., and R.J. and wife Phyllis Barber of Pleasant Garden; three sisters-in-law, Allie and husband Wayne Pruitt and Betty and husband Eugene Shelton all of Pinnacle, Rebecca and Richard Jarrell of Jacksonville, FL; a brother-in-law Gray Baker of Pinnacle; special friends, Dolly Mae Hauser, Betty Lou Denny, Everet and Sue Dalton and Raymond and Kathy Edwards. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by a grandson, Cameron Martin and an infant brother. Her funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Friday January 8, 2010 at Pinnacle View Baptist Church by Rev. Ronnie Chamblin, Elder Vance Jones and Dr. Craig Edwards with burial to follow in Cedar Hill Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pinnacle View on Thursday January 7, 2010 from 6 to 9 pm where her body will remain to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Cedar Hill Cemetery Fund, c/o Hulda Jones 3466 Highway 268 Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
