Jewel Carolyn Vernon Hutchens

Mrs. Jewel Carolyn Vernon Hutchens, 79 of Mount Airy, passed away on Saturday morning February 24, 2024, at Dunmore Plantation in Dobson.  She was born in Surry County on March 1, 1944, to the late Claude and Gennie Poore Vernon.  Mrs. Hutchens was a loving homemaker and retired from the textile industry.  Left to cherish her memory are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Edward Hutchens, IV, and Kenion and Anita Hutchens; grandchildren, Aerika Nicole Hutchens, Kelsey Hutchens, Blake Hutchens, Brenden Hutchens, and Ellie Hutchens; sisters and brother-in-law, Claudia Browning, Labenia Benfield, and Roy Hiatt; brother, Alfred Vernon; many nieces and nephews.   In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hutchens was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Hutchens, III; son, Jonathan Hutchens; sisters, Juanita Miller, and Latrice Hiatt; a brother, Oscar Carlos Vernon; a brother-in-law, Charles Browning; a sister-in-law, Edith Vernon.  A service of worship and celebration will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Dennis Kinnan officiating.  The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
