Mrs. Jewell Maxine Combs Jones, 78, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2017, with her family by her side. Mrs. Jones was born June 18, 1938, in Lowgap, to the late Rush Farlin and Wilma Lavinia Burroughs Combs. She was a member of Savannah United Methodist Church. Maxine loved all children and was an avid fisherman. She always looked forward to watching her grandchildren play any and all sports. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of over 45 years, Billy Whit Jones; three sisters, Annie Davis, Nora Glasco, and Lena Nichols; and three brothers, Jack Combs, Nathan Combs, and Ernest Combs. She is survived by her son, Larry Jones and his wife, Lisa, of Lewisville; two daughters, Carolyn Hill and her husband, Ronald, of Mount Airy, and Karen Jones of Stuart, FL; three granddaughters, Lori Hiatt and her husband, Chris, of Mount Airy, Gina Thompson of Cornelius, and Christi Smith and her husband, Tony, of Lowgap; three grandsons, Jake Hill of Charleston, SC, Austin Jones of Blacksburg, VA, and Nicholas Jones of Jacksonville; and six great-grandchildren, Korbin, Brayden, Landon, Hannah, Miley, and Oakley. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Amazing Grace Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jonathan Barker officiating. Burial will follow at Edmonds Cemetery in Ennice. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at Amazing Grace Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
