Jimmie Hanson Spraker, Sr

Mr. Jimmie Hanson Spraker, Sr., 78, of 137 Noonkester Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, July 23, 2009, at his home. He was born January 30, 1931, in Koehlar, VA, to the late Henry and Virgie Stoneman Spraker. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean War. He was a recipient of 10 military medals, including a purple heart and four battle stars. He was the maintenance supervisor for Pinnacle Hill Apartments, Carolina Christian Village, and Carolina Apartments. Mr. Spraker attended the First Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Rosalie West Spraker of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Seretta and Felix Cebral of Castle Hayne and Lisa and Greg Morgan of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmie H. Spraker, Jr. and Sandra of Miami, FL, Thomas Spraker and Carolyn of Lambsburg, VA, and John Spraker and Wanda of Rocky Point; nine grandchildren, Melinda Dowding, Angela Spraker-Trivette, Scott Spraker, T.J. Spraker, Zachary Spraker, Christina Cebral-Jones, Kelly Spraker, Austin Morgan and Ashley Morgan; eight great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren, Jonathan Poteat, Brandon Poteat, Jason Newman, Leandro Baez, and Indira Baez; seven step-great-grandchildren; and four brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon and Nancy Spraker of Martinsville, VA, Alvin and Edith Spraker and Donald and Violet Spraker, all of Rocky Mount, VA, and Frederick Spraker of Bassett, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spraker was preceded in death by two sisters, Opal Hall and Millie Spraker; and three brothers, Erron Spraker, Elmo Spraker, and Gray Spraker. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. A full military graveside service will be held Monday, July 27, 2009, at 2:00 PM at the Field of Honor at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
