Jimmy Lee Cheek

Mr. Jimmy Lee Cheek, 82, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 31, 2018, at his home. Mr. Cheek was born March 9, 1936, in Logan County, WV, one of four children born to the late Dennie S. and Della Mae Johnson Cheek. Jimmy served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and Cuban Missile Crisis era. He worked as a coal miner for 36 years, retiring from United Mine Workers of America in 1980. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marjorie Smith Cheek of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carla Ann Cheek of the home and Robin Lynn and John Hauser of Ararat; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Michael Cheek of Roanoke, VA, Gregory and Kim Cheek and Rick and Lisa Cheek, all of Mount Airy, Mark and Sandy Cheek of Charlotte, and Dirk and Joyce Cheek of Pilot Mountain; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cheek was preceded in death by a sister, Roseann Greene; and two brothers, Donald Cheek and Robert Cheek. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Rickey L. Spencer officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
