Mr. Jimmy Franklin Hiatt, 54, of Lowgap, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Hiatt was born October 30, 1954, in Surry County, to Zelma Katrina Adams Hiatt and the late William Franklin Hiatt. After graduating from Basic Law Enforcement Training at Surry Community College, Mr. Hiatt joined the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, where he advanced to Lieutenant Assistant District Supervisor and achieved the Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate. Jimmy's favorite saying was "a person should live everyday the way he wants his whole life to be." So, Jimmy did live his life this way. Surviving are his "true partner and love in life," his wife, Linda Ayers Hiatt of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jessica Hiatt and fiance, Jimmy Bennett, of Mount Airy and Katie H. and Bradley Key of Ararat; a son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Melissa Blair of Tucson, AZ; two grandchildren, Kyla Standifer and Tyson "Bubba" Blair; his mother, Zelma Katrina Adams Hiatt of Mount Airy; a sister, Barbara H. King of Mount Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Kelly Hiatt of Lowgap. The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 13, 2009, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Mount Airy, with Dr. Roger B. Gilbert and the Rev. Richard Loman officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery, with law enforcement honors. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
