Mr. Jimmy Douglas "Smiley" Midkiff Age 75 of Fancy Gap VA. and formally of Mt. Airy passed away Friday night November 4, 2011 at the Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Midkiff was born September 24, 1936 in Surry County to the late James Thomas and Bettie Hicks Midkiff. He was a veteran of the US Army and was a retired firefighter with the Winston Salem Fire Department. Mr. Midkiff was a member and Elder of Flat Rock Presbyterian Church and was a lifelong sports fan and fisherman. He had a special love in his heart for his wife of 55 years, his three sons and four wonderful grandchildren. Surviving are his loving wife Betty Snow Midkiff of the home, two sons and daughters-in-law James Timothy and Sandra R. Midkiff of Pilot Mountain and Stephen Eric and Wendy Midkiff of Raleigh, four grandchildren Jett Midkiff and Ember Midkiff both of Pilot Mountain and Heidi Midkiff and Haley Midkiff both of Raleigh, three sisters-in-law, Thelma Martin of Murphy, Jaunita Miller of Mt. Airy and Claudia Rhyne and husband Bill of Pinnacle, one brother-in-law Roger Snow and his wife Gerlene of Mt. Airy and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. Midkiff was preceded in death by his son Mark Douglas Midkiff. A memorial service will be held Tuesday November 8, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with services conducted by Rev. Wilburn Rives. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 PM until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Flat Rock Presbyterian Church P.O.
