Mrs. Jo Ann Hawks Belton, age 75 of Mt. Airy, wife of Elder Johnie R. Belton, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Belton was born in Surry County, February 23, 1932 to Homer Jefferson Hawks, Sr. and Viola Cook Hawks. She was retired from Spencer's Inc., and was a member as well as the clerk of Korner's Grove Primitive Baptist Church. Surviving is her loving husband of nearly sixty years, Elder Johnie R. Belton of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Harry Marshall of Mt. Airy; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Johnnie Ray Belton and Roger and Linda Belton all of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Renee Hauser, David Marshall, Tommy Belton and Tim Belton; a brother and two sisters-in-law, H. J. and Martha Hawks of Mooresville and Ann Hawks of St. Petersburg, FL and a loving friend, Vicky Williams of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Belton was preceded in death by an infant son, Jimmie Gale Belton a sister, Sarah Lou Hawks and a brother, Bill Hawks. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Korner's Grove Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by Elder Milton Gunter, Elder Lewis Vass, Elder Glison Worrell and Bro. Jerry Nester. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 at Moody Funeral Home where her body will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service.
