Jo Ann Tolbert McKinney

Mrs. Jo Ann Tolbert McKinney, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on Sunday, March 5, 2017. She was born June 6, 1937, in Surry County, to the late William Emmett and Myrtle Medley Tolbert. Mrs. McKinney retired from Mount Airy OB-GYN and was a nurse for 53 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 63 years, Robert McKinney; a daughter-in-law, Robin McKinney; a grandson, Taron McKinney; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to two special nieces, Becky Wright and Kelly Tetter, for all their love and care and four very special friends, Ginny Orrosz, Vickie Semones, Kathy Inman, and Hilda Watson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McKinney was preceded in death by her sons, Michael Gordon McKinney and William Patrick “Pat” McKinney; a sister, Helen Seal; and a brother, Roger Tolbert. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Alex L. Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to Calvary Baptist Church, 314 South Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
