Mrs. Joan Moore Woltz died on June 14, 2007. She was born in Burlington, NC. on December 11, 1928 to Elizabeth P. and Edwin H. Moore, Sr.
She graduated from High School in Burlington and from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA., where she was editor of the school newspaper and was May Queen. Joan was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy, where she was active in the Abigail Circle. In the 1970's Joan was instrumental in the establishment of Surry County Hospice and served as a volunteer. Joan was a Red Cross volunteer and a charter member of the local hospital's ladies auxiliary. She played golf and tennis and learned to sail when she was in her 60'S.
Joan is survived by her husband Howard of the home, four children: Louise Woltz of Wilmington, NC., Joanie Robins and her husband Randy Robins of Richmond, Va., H. and Agnes Woltz of Mt. Airy and Ed Wotlz also of Mt. Airy. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Rand, Spotty and Berkeley Robins of Richmond, VA., Louise, Parker, Charlotte and Reddin Woltz of Mt. Airy and Moore, Osler and Bessie Woltz of Mt. Airy and by her brother Jack Moore and his wife Julie of Mt. Airy, and by a sister-in-law, Pat Woltz of Mt. Airy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday on June 16, 2007 at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Ferree officiating, with family visitation at 10:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home c/o Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane Mt. Airy, NC. 27030 or to the charity donors choice.
Joan's family would like to thank her caregivers, the staff of the skilled Nursing Facility at Northern Hospital of Surry County and Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassion and loyalty.
