Joanie Renee Riggs

Joanie Renee Riggs, age 51, of Mt. Airy, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at her home.  Joanie was born in Surry County on January 22, 1968, to the late Raymond Wilson and Betty Jo Taylor Riggs.  She was a loving mother, cousin and friend.  Joanie faithfully served the Boy Scouts, serving as den leader, cub master for Pack 556, Boy Scout Committee Member, and Dogwood District Committee Member.  She was a devoted greyhound who served the Booster Clubs of Franklin, Meadowview and North Surry so well. She will forever be remembered and cherished in the hearts of her son, Austin Riggs; aunt and uncle, Bill and Bonnie Riggs; cousins, John and Malinda Riggs, Phillip and Carol Riggs, and David, Clinton and Colton Riggs; special friends, Monty and Dawn Simpson, Samantha, Matthew and Maggie Kunz, Sidney and Falisaty Simpson, and Kathryn, Dierik, Kaylee and Hettie Freed; goddaughter, Stephanie Simpson; and many other friends.  A service of worship and celebration of Joanie’s life will be held Thursday, April 11, 2019 at 11:00 at Calvary Baptist Church with Ted Young officiating.  Burial will follow in Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 at Calvary Baptist Church.  Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to North Surry Boosters, Joanie Riggs Scholarship Fund, c/o Kathryn Freed, 2440 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.  Moody Funeral Service in Mount Airy is serving the Riggs family.
