Joanna Bates Hutchens

Ms. Joanna Bates Hutchens, 80, of Stony Knoll Road, Dobson, passed away Thursday morning, March 24, 2011, in Cabarrus County. She was born March 7, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Johnny William and Ethel Adaline Coe Bates. She retired from Tultex in Dobson and was a member of Stony Knoll United Methodist Church. Surviving are her son, Jeffery Bates of Dobson; two granddaughters, Leanna White and her husband, Robert, and Rebecca Bates, all of Dobson; a great-grandson, Baden White; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Margaret Bates of Elkin; and a special friend, Sadie Bullin of Dobson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Dean Bates Calhoun. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Stony Knoll United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Lawton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, and other times at her home on Stony Knoll Road in Dobson.
