Mr. Joe Bill Arrington, 80, of 156 Oak Avenue, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Wake Forest University Baptist Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Arrington was born April 7, 1930, in Surry County, the son of the late Jobe Edward and Ida Gordon Arrington. After his retirement from Lynne Hosiery, he owned Oak Street Café. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Katherine "Kat" McMillian Arrington of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Mike Utt of Hillsville, VA; four grandchildren, Jessica Combs and her husband, Charlie, of Hazard, KY, Joe Utt of South Boston, VA, Ashleigh Utt of Hillsville, VA, and Matthew Benfur of Roxboro; a great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Combs of Hazard, KY; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Nonnie Arrington of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Arrington was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Carter; and five brothers, Harvey Arrington, Garfield Arrington, Lester Arrington, Victor Arrington, and Lacy Arrington. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Indian Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tommy Floyd and the Rev. Dennis Arrington officiating.
