Joe Bill Collins

Mr. Joe Bill Collins, 79, of Dobson, passed away Wednesday evening, December 8, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Collins was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He always enjoyed deer hunting, fishing for sheep head on the North Carolina coast with many close friends and family, and watching his grandchildren participate in the many sports they were involved in. He was born November 23, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Dickie and Minnie Kidd Collins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Collins was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Dan Collins and Allen Collins. Joe Bill was a member of Salem Baptist Church and a retired feed mill supervisor from Wayne Farms with 35 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Kathleen "Kat" Moser Collins of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Jeff Draughn of Mount Airy and Gaye and Jeff Davis of Dobson; six grandchildren, Casey Davis, Dixie Draughn, Joseph Davis, Brandi Draughn, MaKayla Draughn, and Aaron Moser; a niece, Darlene Rhoden; a nephew, Lee Collins; and a sister-in-law, Ann Davis Moser. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Salem Baptist Church, with Dr. Bobby Lewis and Dr. Andy Atkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 430 Rockford Road, Dobson, NC 27017; Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
