Joe Scott Harris

Mr. Joe Scott Harris, 84, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, December 29, 2008, at his home. Mr. Harris was born March 9, 1924, in Surry County, to Walter Scott and Mary Blanche Edwards Harris. He was a well-known auto body repairman in the Mount Airy area for many years and a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Surviving are his loving wife, Margaret Elizabeth Williams Harris of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Mike Hunt of Mount Airy; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard E. and Bonnie Harris of Lowgap, and Ronnie and Charmaine Harris and Robert and Brenda Harris, all of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, Lynn Turman, Joseph Harris, Tracey Harris, Danielle Smith, Stacey Harris, Robin Hodges, Josh Utt, and Justin Utt; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Harris Kirkman of Pilot Mountain. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harris was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Mitchell Harris. The family will gather together for a celebration of life from 12:00 until 2:00 on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at the home and will welcome friends at any time after 2:00.
