Joe Shelton

Mr. Joseph Edward "Joe" Shelton age 70 of 143 Little Macy Lane, Ararat, NC husband of Mrs. Barbara Terry Shelton passed away, January 10, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Surry County June 27, 1941 to the late Lemuel Lafayette "L.L." and Polly Clement Shelton. He was a retired carpenter and attended Temple Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Terry Shelton of the home, five daughters and three sons-in-law, Vicky Dinkins, Thurmond, Diane Atkins of Hamptonville, Lisa Shupe and Randy of Mt. Airy, Barbara Jo Flynt and Gary of Germanton, Shannon Stone and Randall of Jonesville, a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Donna H. Shelton of Mt. Airy ,fourteen grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Glenn Barnes of Mt. Airy, two brothers and five sisters-in-law, William Duke and Rena Shelton of Mt. Airy, Charles and Myrtle Shelton of Yadkinville, Sarah Shelton, Gwelda Shelton of Mt. Airy and Foye Shelton of Manning, SC. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by a grandson, Clint Shelton , a son-in-law, William H. Dinkins, a infant sister, two infant brothers and four other brothers, Warren, Roger, Harvey and Donald Shelton. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, January 13, 2012 at Temple Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Zane Fishel. Burial will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Thursday at Temple Baptist Church where his body will remain until the hour of the service and other times at the home of a daughter, Lisa Shupe, 439 Pipers Gap Road, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 .
