Mr. Joel William McCraw, 45, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 21, 2018, at his home. Mr. McCraw was born October 17, 1972, in Surry County, the only child born to the Rev. Earl Wayne and Judy Tilley McCraw. Joel was formerly the plant operator at Roanoke Cement Company in Winston-Salem and was a member of The Peoples Church. He served countless hours as a fireman with Pilot Mountain Volunteer Fire Department (13 years) and Double Creek Volunteer Fire Department (4 years). He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Cynthia Pratt McCraw of the home; his parents, the Rev. Earl Wayne and Judy Tilley McCraw of Mount Airy; his paternal grandparents, Doris and Dillard Eaton of Dobson; and a sister-in-law, Sheila Lambert of Pilot Mountain. Mr. McCraw was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Hugh and Linda Combs Tilley; and his paternal grandfather, Ivy Wayne McCraw. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Eugene Brinkley and the Rev. Dale Hawks officiating. Burial will follow in The Peoples Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
