Mr. John Thomas Blevins, 47, of Dobson, devoted husband of Cathy Smith Blevins, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 21, 1963, in Surry County, to the Rev. J.T. and Brenda Day Blevins. Mr. Blevins was formerly employed by Kentucky Derby Hosiery, where he worked as a fixer, and was a member of Zephyr Missionary Baptist Church, where his father serves as pastor. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Cathy Smith Blevins of the home; his parents, the Rev. J.T. and Brenda Day Blevins of Mount Airy; a step-daughter, Angela Diane Lineberry and her husband, Jay, of Stokesdale; a step-son, Mitchell Dean Willard of Virginia; four grandchildren, Levi and William Willard and Pam and Josh Flippen; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Collins; four nieces; two nephews; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Chris and Beverley Blevins of Dobson and Aaron and Lynn Blevins of Mount Airy; and his special pets, Jodie, Buck, Sasha, Al, and Camella. A sister, Kim Blevins, preceded him in death. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 31, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Zephyr Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob Lyles, the Rev. Arlis Thomas, and the Rev. Todd Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Dobson. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Zephyr Missionary Baptist Church. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the "angels" of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for giving so freely of themselves during this difficult time.
