John Elton Bowman

Mr. John Elton Bowman, 75, of 176 Dolly Lane, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, February 23, 2009, at his home. Mr. Bowman was born April 10, 1933, in Carroll County, VA, to the late John Dexter and Eppie Io Sawyers Bowman. He was a cabinetmaker, was retired from Proctor-Silex Inc., and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alene Huffman Bowman of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and David Parker of Powhatan, VA; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary and Penny Bowman of Lexington, Randall Bowman of Asheville, and Michael and Janine Bowman of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Reva and Elmo Hiatt of Mount Airy and Vesta and Clevus Puckett of Fancy Gap, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a son, Roger Bowman; and two brothers, J.P. Bowman and Harold Bowman. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 26, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dale Wallace and the Rev. David Gantt, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
