John Benny Cave


Mr. John Benny “J.B.” Cave, 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 6, 2016, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Cave was born March 4, 1936, in Surry County, one of ten children born to the late James Wesley and Nora Marsh Cave. J.B. served our country faithfully in the United States Air Force for 21 years. Following his discharge, he worked at WXII12 in Winston-Salem as the chief engineer, retiring in 2000 after 22 years of service. Mr. Cave was a dedicated Christian and a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jesquer “Jackie” Atkins Cave of the home; a daughter, Kara Westmoreland of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sandy Cave of King; his grandchildren, Austin and Ann Marie Westmoreland of Kernersville, Adam Cave and Belle Cave, both of King, and Caroline Westmoreland and John Westmoreland, both of Mount Airy; an expectant great-grandchild (due in April); five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Martha and Clint Bodford of Winston-Salem, Clarine Sprinkle of King, Linda and Joe Bill Hemric and Barbara and Eric Davis, all of Dobson, and Shelby and Tom Edwards of Roanoke, VA; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe Cave of Dobson, Jacob and Martha Cave of Mount Airy, Roger and Barbara Cave of Pilot Mountain, and Claudia Cave of Cary; a sister-in-law, Pauline Atkins Younger of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cave was preceded in death by a brother, Kyle Cave. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at 2:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Jake Penley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at White Plains Friends Meeting. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to White Plains Friends Meeting, 849 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or The Gideons International, Memorial Bible Program, P.O. Box 791, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is serving the Cave family.
