John David Adkisson

John David Adkisson

Mr. John David Adkisson, a man of integrity, a knowledgeable leader who was understanding, caring, giving, humorous, and a teller of stories moved into the more immediate presence of the Lord on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.  David was born in Mt. Airy, NC April 14, 1942 to the late Claud and Jackie Adkisson. He graduated from Mt. Airy High School, East Tennessee State University and earned a master’s degree from UNC-G.  David is survived by his wife Ellen Goad Adkisson, son William Adkisson, wife Christine, step granddaughter Laila and infant son John all of Portland, Maine.  He is also survived by his foster son Tuan Le and wife Kim of San Mateo, CA; and a brother-in-law Edwin Goad and wife Sarah; nephews, Matt Goad, and Charles Goad and wife Jenny and their children Abby and Andrew.  David lived and worked in Greensboro until 1992 when he returned to Mt. Airy as Director of Social Service for Surry County.  After retiring he became interim director of Surry County Health Department.  David enjoyed amateur radio, his pets, books, playing in the Grace Moravian Band, gathering with friends and family music and movies.  He was a member of Lt. David Cox Chapter of SAR and Mt. Airy Rotary as long as his health allowed.  A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Grace Moravian Church with Rev. Neil Routh officiating.  A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church.  Memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or Animal Rescue 1106 South St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.  The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care by the Mt.
