Mr. John Howard Edinger, Jr., 70, passed away Friday, December 24, 2010, at his home in Mount Airy. John was born January 5, 1940, at Fort Bragg, the son of John Howard "Jack" Edinger and Ruth Simmons Edinger. He was educated in schools in Pineville, LA, Long Beach, NY, Yokohama, Japan, and Mount Airy. He was an honor graduate, class of 1957, from Mount Airy High School and attended North Carolina State University. He served in the United States Air Force, stationed at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX, Eareckson AFB, Shemya Island, AK, and Shaw AFB, Columbia, SC. His data processing career began in Winston-Salem in the early 1960s. He later worked in North Wilkesboro and Charlotte before settling in his beloved Mount Airy, where he opened Surry Data Services in 1977. John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Yvonne Huffman Edinger; a sister, Clara Edinger Moseley of Covington, VA; an aunt, Zola Simmons Chilton of Pilot Mountain; and a brother-in-law, Ernest Huffman and his wife, Phyllis, of Richlands. Children include a son, John Howard "Jack" Edinger, III and his wife, Anne, of Durham; three step-sons, Tony Warren Howard, Jr. and his wife, Connie, of Augusta, GA, John Gregory Howard and his wife, Amy, of Kinston, and Michael Coleman Edinger of Mount Airy; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several cousins; and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Edwin King Moseley. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 1, 2011, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 714 North Main Street, Mount Airy. Dr. Roger B. Gilbert will be officiating minister. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
