Mr. John Willard Eggleston, Sr. age 77 of Dobson, NC passed away at Forsyth Medical Center July 22, 2006. Mr. Eggleston was born June 11, 1929 in Rockingham County to the late John Willard Eggleston, and Ethel Virginia Dunn Eggleston. He played with the Mt. Airy Baseball Graniteers and served in the US Army during World War II. He retired as President and co-owner of Currier-Withers Supply Company and is a member of Rocky Ford Baptist Church. Mr. Eggleston is survived by his wife, Sandra Mayes Eggleston; two sons, John Willard "Johnny" Eggleston, Jr. of Salisbury, NC, Gideon Chris Eggleston of Mt. Airy, NC; two step daughters and son-in-law, Sara Webb of Mt. Airy, NC, Leigh Ann and Dwayne Venable of Mt. Airy, NC; two step sons, Matthew Lowe of Dobson, NC and Mark Lowe of the home; three step grandchildren and spouse, Jason and Renee McCreary, Justin McCreary, Heather White; two step great grandchildren, James and Andrew McCreary; a sister, Mrs. Duffy (Mildred) Westmoreland of Eden, NC; a brother and sister-in-law, Garry and Brenda Eggleston of Ridgeway, VA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Mr. Eggleston was preceded in death by the mother of his sons, Opal Ward Eggleston and the mother of his step daughters, Joan McCraw Eggleston. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Rocky Ford Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens with full military rites by VFW Memorial Honor Guard from Post 2019 Mt. Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy where his body will remain until time to be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Rocky Ford Baptist Church, 913 River Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
