John Walter Hensley

Mr. John Walter Hensley, age 87, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, August 26, 2024, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Hensley was born May 16, 1937, to the late Will Hensley and Elsie Kirkman Hensley in Surry County. He was a man of many traits, whether he was cleaning cars or doing odd jobs. Mr. Hensley is survived by his daughters, Lavonda Jessup and Marisa Hensley; his grandchildren, Olivia Jessup, Michael Jessup, Kimberly Simmons, Jennifer Gray; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Woods, Nellie Bowman, Sarah Hamm and Larry. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hensley was preceded in death by his two sons, Darrell Hensley, Ricky Hensley; grandchild, Tina Martz; son-in-law, Todd Jessup; brothers, Gene Hensley, Robert Hensley; brother-in-law, Bill Bowman. A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 1, 2024, at 3 PM at Unity Church with the Rev. Buford Jessup officiating. The family will receive Sunday, September 1, 2024, from 1:30 until 2:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
