John Lewis Hice

Mr. John Lewis Hice, 81, of Lowgap, passed away Monday morning, January 28, 2019, at his home.  Mr. Hice was born May 9, 1937, in Surry County, the son of the late Pate Hice and Ima Jane Todd Hoover.  John served our country in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1960.  He worked at Proctor-Silex, Inc. for many years, retiring as a general foreman in 1991.  John was initiated and raised as a Mason on April 29, 1964, and served as a master of Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM for two terms.  He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a District Deputy Grand Lecturer of the 25th district.  Additionally, John was an honorary member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF and AM, Sparta Masonic Lodge #423 AF and AM, and other local lodges.  He is survived by his wife, Linda Barnard Hice; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and David Lowe, Donna and John Saylor, and Angelia and Chuck Fiebernitz; two stepsons, Mark Taylor and his wife, Donna, and Johnny Taylor; five grandchildren, Angel Ramey, Lindsey Ramey, Laura Hodges, Adam Lowe, and Jacob Lowe; five great-grandchildren, Jaxon Hodges, Lexi Hodges, Porter Lowe, Emarie Lowe, and Trey Payton Lyons; a sister, Clara Jean Hice Moore; and his special friends, Billy York, Don Taylor, Don Taylor, Jr., and Willard Goodson  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hice was preceded in death by a grandson, Jason Parrish; and two sisters, Louise Johnson and Avadell Nunn.  A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2019, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, followed by Masonic rites by Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM at 8:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC  27565.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love, compassion, and care shown by his stepson and caregiver, Johnny Taylor.
